During the week ending January 14, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have edged up very slightly, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, some traders in the Chinese domestic steel plate market have built up their inventories, while HRC futures prices at Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) have risen slightly, with both these factors providing support for domestic steel plate prices. However, demand from downstream users has failed to improve and is expected to remain at low levels ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday (February 2-10). It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
