During the week ending August 6, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have continued to increase. Transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, ferrous metal futures prices in China have moved up, exerting a positive impact on the domestic steel plate market. Chinese steelmaker Hebei Iron and Steel Group (HBIS) has kept its steel plate prices stable, which has provided support for steel plate prices in the spot market. Recently, there have been fewer steel plate supplies arriving in the market, easing the pressure from the supply side. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
