During the week ending March 11, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have softened slightly, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has slackened and is now at low-to-medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, ferrous metal futures prices in China have declined, exerting a negative impact on steel plate prices in the domestic spot market. Traders have chosen to sell at lower prices to stimulate transaction activity. Chinese steel plate producers have implemented production cuts amid heavy pollution, easing the pressure on prices from the supply side and providing some support for prices. Nevertheless, prices have been negatively impacted by high inventory levels and slack demand. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move sideways in the coming week.
