During the week ending February 25, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have risen slightly, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, sentiment in the domestic steel plate market has improved, while inventory levels of steel plate in Shanghai have been lower than in neighboring regions, causing steel plate supplies to flow to Shanghai and resulting in higher price rises in Shanghai. Even though demand is expected to improve in the steel plate market, at the same time the ongoing rainy weather conditions will negatively affect demand. However, the relatively low inventory levels and high booking costs of steel plate will bolster steel plate prices. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
