During the week ending January 28, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have edged up for common carbon and low alloy medium plate, though indicating slight decreases for shipbuilding plate, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, steel plate inventories in the domestic market have been at relatively low levels, providing support for steel plate prices. Meanwhile, some steel plate producers have increased their offer prices. Demand for steel plate will become slacker ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday (February 2-10). It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will move sideways in the coming week.
