During the week ending April 1, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have mostly edged up slightly, though shipbuilding plate prices have moved sideways, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at low-to-medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, ferrous metal futures prices in China have increased, exerting a positive impact on the steel plate market. Meanwhile, steelmakers have received sufficient orders from downstream users and traders and so they are unlikely to reduce their ex-works prices, which will provide support for steel plate prices in the domestic spot market. Demand is expected to be better in April. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely move up further in the coming week.
