During the week ending May 7, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have increased significantly, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, prices of other finished steel products in China, for example, rebar and wire rod, have indicated big rises, exerting a positive impact on the domestic steel plate market. Meanwhile, inventories of steel plate have been at relatively low levels, while supply shortages have been seen for some steel plate specifications, with prices accordingly receiving a boost. It is thought that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely increase further in the coming week.
