During the week ending August 20, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have edged up. Transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, inventory levels in steel plate market have been comparatively low, which has provided certain support to steel plate prices in spot market. Meanwhile, Chinese major steelmaker Baosteel has issued its ex-works prices for September shipment, raising its steel plate prices by RMB 400/mt ($58/mt), bolstering steel plate prices from cost side. It is expected that steel plate prices in the local Chinese market will likely increase further in the coming week.
