During the week ending April 8, average prices of steel plate in the Chinese domestic market have moved up, while transaction activity in the overall steel plate market has been at medium levels. Average steel plate prices in China are presented in the table below.
During the given week, ferrous futures prices in China have moved up, while steel plate inventories have decreased, with supply shortages observed in some regions, with all these factors providing support for steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market. However, steel plate producers’ capacity utilization rates are expected to increase due to the ending of winter season production restrictions in northern China. At the same time, the Tomb-Sweeping Day (April 5-7) holiday have negatively affected steel plate sales, resulted in rises in inventory levels in the steel plate market. It is expected that steel plate prices in the Chinese domestic market will likely fluctuate within a limited range in the coming week.
