Brazilian slab exporters continue to negotiate deals in an average of $470/mt, unchanged over the last three weeks, FOB conditions for basic commercial grades.
The stability confirms assumptions that the import tariff for the Brazilian steel in the US remains at 50 percent, unaffected by the recent US-Brazil political dispute.
In July, Brazil exported 670,500 mt and imported 30,700 mt of slabs against respectively 751,000 mt and no imports in June.
In July, ArcelorMittal Pecem exported 210,200 mt of slabs at $522/mt to the US, 52,300 mt at $650/mt to Mexico, and 31,100 mt at $503/mt to Germany, while Ternium shipped 131,000 mt at $543/mt to the US and 30,100 mt at $527/mt to Argentina, all FOB conditions.
For ArcelorMittal Tubarão, the company exported 100,100 mt at $495/mt to France, 57,500 mt at $520/mt to the US, 30,100 mt at $494/mt to Argentina, 27,600 mt at $510/mt to Germany, and 500 mt at $503/mt to Luxembourg, also FOB conditions.
The import was destined to Usiminas and shipped FOB from Japan at $424/mt.
