Brazilian slab reference export price increases slightly

After six consecutive weeks holding steady at $485/mt, the reference price for the export of Brazilian slabs increased to $490/mt, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades.

The small increase is in line with expectations from the Brazilian steel producers, as the timeline for the continuation of negotiations between Brazilian and US authorities is reportedly maintained for this month.

In December, the average export price of the Brazilian slabs was $503/mt, FOB, including quality extras.

Data from the first two weeks of January 2026 are pointing to exports, for the total of the month, in line or lower than the 762,400 mt exported in December 2025, at an average price of $503/mt, FOB and including quality extras.
