For the second consecutive week, the reference price for Brazilian slab exports is $540 per metric ton (mt), FOB conditions, for the basic commercial grades, the highest price ton record since January, 2025.
Brazilian exporters remain cautiously optimistic, anticipating price stability or moderate increases in reference prices over the coming weeks. This outlook follows the recent US Supreme Court ruling invalidating punitive tariffs, which contributed to a further depreciation of the USD against the BRL.
The resumption of Brazilian slabs exports to the US this month, after a pause in January, is also positively affecting price perspectives.
Preliminary numbers from Secretaria de Comercio Exterior (SECEX), Brazil’s foreign trade secretariat, find slabs exports from Brazil in February are likely higher in volume that the 410,900 mt reported for January, with the last price confirmed at $550/mt, FOB conditions, including quality extras.
