Brazilian slab reference export price maintains uptrend

Monday, 26 January 2026 09:01:09 (GMT+3)   |   Sao Paulo

The reference price for the export of slabs from Brazil has reached $503/mt, FOB conditions for the basic commercial grades, comparable to $498/mt last week, and $490/mt the week before, following stability at $485/mt throughout December 2025.

While Brazilian exporters do not anticipate a significant rise, they do expect modest increases in the coming weeks. This outlook reflects optimism about ongoing negotiations between Brazilian and US officials regarding the import tax agenda.

Recent data released by SECEX for the initial four weeks of January indicate that Brazil's slab export volumes are expected to remain stable, or potentially show a slight increase compared to the 762,400 mt exported in December.

FOB export prices in January, including quality extras, were spotted in two different shipments at $509/mt and $513/mt.
