Global crude steel production in April this year decreased by 6.8 percent month on month and fell by 13 percent year on year to 137.1 million metric tons, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
In the January-April period of this year, global crude steel production decreased to 580.99 million mt, down 4.1 percent year on year.
In April this year, crude steel output in Asia amounted to 104.48 million mt, falling by 7.5 percent, with 85.03 million mt produced by China, up 0.2 percent, 6.62 million mt produced by Japan, decreasing by 23.5 percent, 3.14 million mt produced by India, declining by 65.2 percent, and 5.5 million mt produced by South Korea, down by 8.4 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.
EU-28 countries produced 10.73 million mt of crude steel in April, down by 22.9 percent year on year. In the given period, Germany's output was three million mt, falling by 10.7 percent year on year, Italy's crude steel output was 1.35 million mt, decreasing by 30.7 percent year on year, and France's crude steel output amounted to 800,000 mt, declining by 37.9 percent year on year.
Turkey produced 2.25 million metric tons of crude steel in April, with a 26.3 percent decrease from the same month of last year. Iran's crude steel production in April amounted to 1.79 million mt, down by 17.8 percent year on year. The CIS registered a crude steel output of 6.55 million mt, falling by 22.6 on year-on-year basis, with Russia producing 4.7 million mt, decreasing by 19.4 percent, and Ukraine producing 1.34 million mt, down by 30.9 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
In North America in April, crude steel output totaled 7.2 million mt, declining by 28.3 percent, with the US producing 4.97 million mt, falling by 32.5 percent, and Mexico producing 1.45 million mt, down by 12.1 percent, all on year-on-year basis. Crude steel output in South America in April amounted to 2.1 million mt, decreasing by 42.8 percent from April 2019, with Brazil's output totaling 1.81 million mt, down by 39 percent year on year.
