World crude steel output down 3.6 percent in Jan-Mar

Global crude steel production in March this year decreased by 0.5 percent year on year and rose by 14 percent month on month to 137.32 million metric tons, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel).
 
In the January-March period of this year, global crude steel production decreased to 385.67 million mt, down 3.6 percent year on year.
  
In March, crude steel output in China amounted to 70.6 million mt, up by 2.9 percent, with 8.6 million mt produced by Japan, down 6.8 percent, 8.05 million mt produced by India, increasing by 3.4 percent, and 5.4 million mt produced by South Korea, decreasing by 8.4 percent - with all comparisons on year-on-year basis.
 
In March, Germany's output was 3.8 million mt, declining by 1.6 percent year on year, Italy's crude steel output totaled 2.02 million mt, down 3.5 percent year on year, and France's crude steel output amounted to 1.1 million mt, decreasing by 21.4 percent year on year.
 
Turkey produced 2.7 million metric tons of crude steel in March, with a 1.3 percent increase year on year. Iran's crude steel production in the given month amounted to 1.4 million mt, up 10.6 percent year on year. In March, Russia produced 6.01 million mt, down by two percent year on year, and Ukraine produced 2.17 million mt, rising 28.1 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
 
In the given month, crude steel output in the US totaled 6.7 million mt, up by 4.9 percent, while Mexico produced 1.5 million mt of crude steel, down by 1.5 percent, both on year-on-year basis. Crude steel output in Brazil in March this year amounted to 2.5 million mt, down 9.5 percent year on year.
