WISCO targets annual steelmaking capacity of 60 million mt by 2015

Hubei Province-based Chinese steel producer Wuhan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd (WISCO) has issued its targets for China's 12th five-year plan period (2011-15). Accordingly, by 2015 WISCO aims to raise its annual crude steel production capacity to over 60 million mt and to increase its yearly sales income to RMB 250 billion ($38 billion).

In 2009, WISCO produced 30 million mt of crude steel. Over the past five years, it has developed a total of 85 new steel products.

In the 12th five-year plan period, WISCO's main steel facility in Qingshan, Wuhan will increase its annual production capacity to 18-20 million mt.

During the past couple of years, WISCO has endeavored to expand its mineral assets in South America, Australia and Africa to secure raw material supplies.
