Hubei Province-based Chinese steelmaker Wuhan Iron and Steel (Group) Corporation (WISCO) has announced that on November 26 it shipped 2,000 mt of cold rolled steel sheets to Nigeria, sub-Saharan Africa 's second-largest economy.

Up to now, as regards Africa, WISCO has mainly exported to the continent's most developed country, namely South Africa. In the 2006-2010 period, WISCO shipped approximately 170,000 mt of steel products to South Africa, accounting for 95 percent of all exports from WISCO to Africa in the given period.

The contract for the cold rolled sheet supply in question was signed in August this year after WISCO's wholly-owned Indian subsidiary WISCO India Pvt learned that India-based Ruchi Group planned to invest in a steel processing service center in Nigeria, which would require supplies of hot and cold rolled steel.
