According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on April 1, 2017, US domestic raw steel production was 1,692,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 71.4 percent.
Production for the week ending April 1, 2017 is down 1.9 percent from the previous week ending March 25, 2017 when production was 1,725,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 72.8 percent.
Production was 1,685,000 net tons in the week ending April 1, 2016 while the capability utilization then was 72.1 percent. The current week production represents a 0.4 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.
Adjusted year-to-date production through April 1, 2017 was 22,551,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 73.2 percent. That is up 4.1 percent from the 21,657,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 71.3 percent.
