Brazilian flats steelmaker Usiminas closed a 30,000 mt contract to supply heavy plates and coils for an Argentinian shale gas project known as Vaca Muerta, the company said on Tuesday.
The product comes from the steelmaker’s Ipatinga and Cubatao mills, located in the cities of same name in the states of Minas Gerais and Sao Paulo, respectively.
Usiminas said the product will be used by Argentinian steelmakers Tenaris Siat and Tenaris Confab, which will transform it into 62.1 miles of steel pipes.
Last year, Usiminas sent 16,000 mt of heavy plates and coils for Tenaris Siat in Argentina for the Fortin de Piedra oil project, in the Neuquen province.
Usiminas said Argentina was the steelmaker’s main export destination in Q2, with a 34 percent share, out of the company’s total exports in the period.
Additionally, Usiminas also closed a deal to provide 4,000 mt of steel to GRI Renewable Industries in the Bahia Blanca region, in Argentina.
The product will be sent under two lots, the last of which to be sent later this month, Usiminas said.
