US tinplate imports up 30.7 percent in September

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of tinplate totaled 84,986 mt in September 2017, up 30.7 percent from August and up 16.9 percent from September 2016 levels. By value, tinplate imports totaled $81.8 million in September 2017, compared to $63.3 million in the previous month and $67.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most tinplate from the Netherlands in September, with 31,186 mt, compared to 25,501 mt in August and 33,897 mt in September 2016. Other top sources of imported tinplate in September include Germany, with 26,383 mt; Canada, with 13,046 mt; Korea, with 7,099 mt; Brazil, with 3,298 mt; and Taiwan, with 2,222 mt.
