According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of tin plate totaled 61,182 mt in August 2018, down 11.8 percent from July and down 5.9 percent from August 2017 levels. By value, tin plate imports totaled $64.5 million in August 2018, compared to $74.2 million in the previous month and $63.3 million in the same month last year.
The US imported the most tin plate from Netherlands in August, with 22,221 mt, compared to 29,642 mt in July and 25,501 mt in August 2017. Other top sources of imported tin plate in August include Germany, with 15,955 mt; Canada, with 9,326 mt; China, with 7,964 mt; and Korea, with 4,763 mt.
