US Steel wants manufacturing legislation
According to the Pittsburgh Business Times, US Steel president John Surma and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) are banding together to press the US Congress to pass a collection to strengthen manufacturing in the United States. The bill is a five point legislative plan that NAM says would give the US economy a $1 trillion boost. Mr. Surma and NAM president John Engler seek the legislation which would streamline asbestos litigation, air pollution and telecommunication laws, and measures to increase highway spending and domestic fuel exploration. Moreover, they assert that the future of the manufacturing industry is threatened by a shortage of qualified workers entering the job market: Weve got to attract people that are better than we are today, said Surma. Engler noted that there needs to be more of an emphasis on technical training and that he believes the legislation could be put into place in the next 30 to 60 days.US Steel wants manufacturing legislation
