US steel and iron scrap exports decrease 0.9 percent in March

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,489,937 mt in March 2018, a 0.9 percent decrease month-on-month but a 64.2 percent increase year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in March with 346,631 mt, which increased 6.8 percent month-on-month and surged up 229.5 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in March 2018 include: Taiwan, with 157,996 mt; India, with 131,850 mt; Mexico, with 127,790 mt; and Vietnam, with 95,247 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $543.3 million in March 2018, a 1.2 percent increase compared to February and a 77.9 percent increase compared to March 2017.
