US iron and steel scrap exports up 7.8 percent in February

According to the latest figures from the US International Trade Commission, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled 1,371,447 mt in February 2023, a 7.8 percent increase month-on-month and a 0.6 percent increase year-on-year.

Turkey was the largest recipient of US iron and scrap exports in February with 382,644 mt, up 54.9 percent month-on-month and up 4.6 percent year-on-year. Other notable destinations in February include: Mexico, with 207,951 mt; Vietnam, with 201,484 mt; Taiwan, with 113,181 mt; and Bangladesh, with 99,211 mt.

In terms of value, US iron and steel scrap exports totaled $611.3 million in February 2023, compared to $495.7 million in January and $647.6 million in February 2022.
