US standard pipe imports up 27.1 percent in March

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of standard pipe totaled 83,709 mt in March 2018, up 27.1 percent from February but down 10.8 percent from March 2017 levels. By value, standard pipe imports totaled $81.6 million in March 2018, compared to $64.5 million in the previous month and $77.5 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most standard pipe from Canada in March, with 18,014 mt, compared to 15,914 mt in February and 16,054 mt in March 2017. Other top sources of imported standard pipe in March include Korea, with 13,804 mt; Thailand, with 10,697 mt; Mexico, with 5,213 mt; and United Arab Emirates, with 4,866 mt.
