US standard pipe imports down 25.8 percent in December

According to delayed final census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of standard pipe totaled 40,247 mt in December 2018, down 25.8 percent from November and down 40.7 percent from December 2017. By value, drawn wire imports totaled $49.9 million in December 2018, compared to $58.0 million in the previous month and $62.2 million in the same month of 2017.

The US imported the most standard pipe from Canada in December, with 7,692 mt, compared to 11,606 mt in November and 11,136 mt in December 2017. Other top sources of imported standard pipe in December include Italy, with 6,285 mt; UAE, with 5,061 mt; Vietnam, with 4,413 mt; and Mexico, with 3,522 mt.

For the full-year 2018, US standard pipe imports totaled 645,242 mt, down 10.9 percent from 2017 totals. By value, standard pipe imports totaled $778.8 million in 2018, compared to $768.6 million in 2017.
