US slab imports up 35 percent in February 2026 from January

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of slabs totaled 366,260 mt in February this year, up 35.0 percent month on month and down 26.0 percent from February 2025. By value, the slab imports totaled $199.88 million in February 2026, compared to $146.16 million in January and $290.71 million in February 2025.

The US imported the most slab from Brazil in February with 206,358 mt, compared to 113,703 mt in January and 374,000 mt in February 2025. Other top sources of imported slabs in February included Mexico with 96,078 mt, Japan with 49,081 mt, and Canada with 14,560 mt.
