US slab imports up 7.1 percent in March 2026 from February

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of slabs totaled 392,230 mt in March this year, up 7.1 percent month on month and down 29.1 percent from March 2025. By value, the slab imports totaled $226.64 million in March 2026, compared to $199.88 million in February and $326.54 million in March 2025.

The US imported the most slab from Brazil in March with 222,955 mt, compared to 206,358 mt in February and 338,834 mt in March 2025. Other top sources of imported slabs in March included Vietnam with 91,713 mt, Mexico with 48,712 mt, and Canada with 28,674 mt.
