US slab imports down 2.1 percent in February

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of slab totaled 286,386 mt in February 2023, down 2.1 percent from January but up 3.9 percent from February 2022 levels. By value, slab imports totaled $169.5 million in February 2023, compared to $178.2 million in January and $204.9 million in February 2022.

The US imported the most slab from Brazil in February, with 234,757 mt, compared to 200,201 mt in January and 200,243 mt in February 2022. Other top sources of imported slab in February include Mexico, with 33,798 mt; and Canada, with 17,832 mt.
