US rig count’s strong uptrend continues week-on-week

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending January 27, the US rotary rig count increased by 18 to 712 following a 35-rig increase the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by three to 145, while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by 15 to 566. The overall rig count is now up by 93 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count increased by three to 345 rigs in the week ending January 27, following a 27-rig increase the week before. The Canadian rig count is now up by 114 rigs from the same week a year ago.
