According to the latest report by Baker Hughes, for the week ending December 9, the US rig count fell by six to 1,987, and is up 264 rigs year-on-year. Oil rigs jumped by 29 last week and are up by 398 year-on-year. However, the increase in oil rigs was more than offset by a 36-rig count drop in gas rigs. Rigs drilling for gas in the US are down 128 year-on-year.

Meanwhile, the rig count in Canada was up 20 from week-ago levels to 504, and is up 22 from the same week a year ago.
