US rig counts continue to increase, Canadian counts fall again

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending December 30, the US rotary rig count increased by five to 658 following a 16-rig increase the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by three to 132, while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by two to 525. The overall rig count is now down by 40 rigs, year-on-year.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by 67 to 157 rigs in the week ending December 30, following a 10-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is now up by 74 rigs from the same week a year ago.
