US rig count sees strong weekly rise while Canadian count dips

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending February 9 the US rotary rig count increased by 29 to 975 rigs following a one-rig decrease the week before. The number of rigs drilling for gas increased by three to 184 while the number of rigs drilling for oil increased by 26 to 791. The overall rig count is now up by 234 rigs in a year-on-year comparison.

Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by 17 to 325 rigs in the week ending February 9 following a four-rig increase the week before. The Canadian rig count is now down by 27 rigs from the same week a year ago.
