US rebar imports drop 25.4 percent in February

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of rebar totaled 148,453 mt in February 2017, down 25.4 percent from January and down 9.3 percent from February 2016 levels. By value, rebar imports totaled $71.4 million in February 2017, compared to $80.6 million in the previous month and $54.1 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most rebar from Turkey in February, with 103,399 mt, compared to 179,847 mt in January and 120,966 mt in February 2016. Other top sources of imported rebar in February include Peru, with 16,031 mt; Japan, with 9,872 mt; Canada, with 9,797 mt; Vietnam, with 5,054 mt; and Dominican Republic, with 2,369 mt.
