US raw steel production rises 1.1 percent week on week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, in the week ending May 31, 2014, US domestic raw steel production was 1,895,000 net tons, while the capability utilization rate was 78.8 percent, with output up 3.4 percent from 1,833,000 net tons in the corresponding week of the previous year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.5 percent. Production in the week ending May 31, 2014 was up 1.1 percent from the previous week ending May 24 when production was 1,875,000 net tons and the capability utilization rate was 78.0 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through May 31, 2014 was 39.54 million net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 76.3 percent. This represents a 0.4 percent decrease from 39.69 million net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.8 percent.
