US raw steel production edges down 0.6 percent week-on-week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on March 4, 2017, US domestic raw steel production was 1,760,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 74.3 percent.
 
Production was 1,695,000 net tons in the week ending March 4, 2016 while the capability utilization then was 72.5 percent. The current week production represents a 3.8 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.
 
Production for the week ending March 4, 2017 is down 0.6 percent from the previous week ending February 25, 2017 when production was 1,770,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 74.7 percent.
 
Adjusted year-to-date production through March 4, 2017 was 15,596,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 73.1 percent. That is up 4.6 percent from the 14,917,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 70.9 percent.
