US raw steel production drops 4.7 percent week-on-week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on December 30, 2017, US domestic raw steel production was 1,637,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 70.2 percent.

Production for the week ending December 30, 2017 is down 4.7 percent from the previous week ending December 23, 2017 when production was 1,718,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 73.7 percent.

Production was 1,607,000 net tons in the week ending December 30, 2016 while the capability utilization then was 67.8 percent. The current week production represents a 1.9 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.

Adjusted year-to-date production through December 30, 2017 was 90,106,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 74.3 percent. That is up 4.3 percent from the 86,379,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 70.5 percent.
