US raw steel production down 1.4 percent week-on-week

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), in the week ending on May 18, 2019, US domestic raw steel production was 1,900,000 net tons while the capability utilization rate was 81.6 percent.

Production for the week ending May 18, 2019 is down 1.4 percent from the previous week ending May 11, 2019 when production was 1,927,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 82.8 percent.

Production was 1,808,000 net tons in the week ending May 18, 2018 while the capability utilization then was 77.1 percent. The current week production represents a 5.1 percent increase from the same period in the previous year.

Adjusted year-to-date production through May 18, 2019 was 37,525,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 81.8 percent. That is up 6.5 percent from the 35,225,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.6 percent.
