US oil rig count stabilizes week-on-week while Canadian count drops

Baker Hughes has reported that for the week ending December 18, the US rig count remained unchanged at 709, after a 28-rig drop the previous week. The 17-rig gas rig count decrease to 168 was offset by a 17-rig increase for oil, to 541 rigs. The overall rig count is still down by 1,166 from 1,875 rigs during the same week a year ago.
 
Meanwhile, the Canadian rig count decreased by 12 in the week ending December 18 to 162, after a three-rig decrease the week before. The Canadian rig count is now down by 229 from 391 rigs during the same week a year ago.
