According to export data from the US Department of Commerce, US exports of light-shaped bar (merchant bar) totaled 3,778 mt in September this year, down 26.6 percent from August and down 66.1 percent year on year. By value, merchant bar exports totaled $4.4 million in September compared to $5.5 million in the previous month and $7.7 million in the same month last year.
The US shipped the most merchant bar to Mexico in September with 1,908 mt compared to 3,025 mt in August and 3,927 mt in September last year. The other top export destination was Canada with 1,798 mt. There were no other significant destinations (1,000 or more) for US merchant bar exports in September.
