US CRC imports fall 27.4 percent in December

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold rolled sheets totaled 172,329 mt in December, down 27.4 percent from November but up 14.4 percent from December 2015 levels. By value, CRC imports totaled $126.9 million in December 2016, compared to $157.8 million in the previous month and $102.9 million in the same month last year.
 
The US imported the most CRC from Mexico in December, with 29,292 mt, compared to 32,422 mt in November and 7,869 mt in December 2015. Other top sources of imported CRC in December include Canada, with 23,754 mt; Vietnam, with 16,046 mt; Australia, with 15,493 mt; the United Kingdom, with 14,365 mt; and Korea, with 12,337 mt.
 
For the full-year 2016, CRC imports to the US totaled 1,997,728 mt, down 4.3 percent from 2015. By value, US CRC imports in 2016 totaled $1.35 billion, compared to $1.49 billion in 2015.
