US CRC imports down 17.7 percent in August

According to preliminary census data from the US Department of Commerce, US imports of cold rolled sheets totaled 123,773 mt in August 2018, down 17.7 percent from July and down 41.0 percent from August 2017 levels. By value, CRC imports totaled $109.2 million in August 2018, compared to $129.3 million in the previous month and $158.2 million in the same month last year.

The US imported the most CRC from Canada in August, with 29,274 mt, compared to 26,349 mt in July and 31,519 mt in August 2017. Other top sources of imported CRC in August include Mexico, with 19,524 mt; Korea, with 16,071 mt; Turkey, with 9,578 mt; Vietnam, with 7,890 mt; and Sweden, with 5,621 mt.
