US and Canadian rig counts register double-digit gains

According to the most recent report by Baker Hughes, for the week ending October 7, the US rotary rig count rose by 22 from the previous week to 2,012, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 341 rigs.

US oil rigs jumped 10 last week to 1,070, reflecting an increase of 380 rigs year-on-year, and remained higher than gas rig counts, which increased by 12 last week to 935 (down 36 year-over-year).

The Canadian rig count rose as well, increasing 12 from last week to 522, representing a year-on-year increase of 119 rigs.
