In the January-April period this year, Ukraine exported 238,100 mt of ferrous scrap metal worth a total of $75.2 million, while it had not exported any ferrous scrap in the same period of the previous year, according to Ukraine's Ministry of Revenue and Duties. Market participants report that the exports were carried out within the quotas allocated in June 2013.

According to Yuri Dobrovolsky, head of the marketing department of state-owned enterprise Ukrpromvneshekspertiza, the quotas in question implied exports of 1.2 million mt of ferrous scrap metal from June 2013 to May 2014 inclusive. Donetsk-based company Ukrmet received the right to export 335,000 mt of this total volume.
