Ugur Dalbeler: Rise in activity will come sooner than expected

Ugur Dalbeler, IREPAS chairman and CEO of Turkish long steel producer Colakoglu Metalurji, in the first session of the SteelOrbis Spring '10 Conference and 62nd IREPAS Meeting held in Budapest on June 7-9 said that uncertainty keeps on clouding over the steel markets, remarking that spring conferences are usually much more optimistic, unlike this year.

However, Mr. Dalbeler said that, even in unprecedented times of crisis, the steel industry has managed to survive, and that there is no other choice but to continue producing and consuming. To better manage in these hard times, the IREPAS chairman stressed that communication is the key factor to getting through the current difficulties.

Saying he felt sure that the conference participants would go home with much more positive feelings, Mr. Dalbeler told the attendees that while overcapacity remains the main problem the necessary measures are being taken. The rise in activity will come sooner than expected, Dalbeler concluded.
