According to the monthly consumer tendency survey released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index* in Turkey decreased by 0.9 percent month on month in January this year to 58.2 points, following a 2.3 percent month-on-month decrease to 58.7 points in December.
According to the indices based on individual questions asked of Turkish consumers concerning the consumer tendency, in January the index for the general current economic situation fell by 2.1 percent month on month to 65.9 points, while the index for the general economic situation in the next 12 months rose by 0.6 percent compared to December to 76.5 points.
Meanwhile, in January the index for whether the present is a good time to purchase durable goods was up by 9.6 percent to 55.3 points, while the index for the probability of buying durable goods in the next 12 months rose by one percent to 97 points, both on month-on-month basis.
In January, the probability of buying a car in the next 12 months was up by 5.6 percent to 8.9 points and the index for the probability of buying or building a home in the next 12 months increased by 6.5 percent to 7.1 points, both month on month.
*TUIK has announced that it will release consumer confidence data on a seasonally-adjusted basis starting from the current month of January since it has found seasonal impacts in its analyses.
