In December 2009, Turkey's steel pipe exports reached their highest level in terms of volume since April 2009, indicating a month-on-month increase of 42.97 percent; however, the average export price of steel pipe declined by 6.92 percent over November.
According to the statistics released by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association (IMMIB), in December 2009 Turkey's total steel pipe exports amounted to 156,025 metric tons, increasing by 11.47 percent year on year and up 42.97 percent month on month. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $150.22 million, down 9.47 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, but up 33.07 percent over November.
In December, the average export price of Turkish steel pipes amounted to $963/mt, down $72/mt or 6.92 percent from November levels, and indicating a decrease of $223/mt or 18.78 percent from $1,185/mt in December 2008.
On the other hand, in 2009 Turkey's steel pipe exports slid 8.59 percent year on year to 1.56 million mt, totaling a value of $1.5 billion, down 24.48 percent compared to the previous year. In the year in question, Turkey significantly increased its steel pipe exports to Iraq, Portugal and Croatia.
