Turkey’s steel import value down four percent in October

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in October this year Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.7 billion, decreasing by four percent year on year and up 5.6 percent compared to September this year. Iron and steel ranked third among the most imported products of the country in the given month.

Meanwhile, in October imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 16th among the products with the highest import value, rose by 2.2 percent compared to October 2011 and was down 1.6 percent month on month, amounting to $200.6 million.

In the first 10 months of 2012, the country's iron and steel imports stood at $16.6 billion, decreasing by 2.4 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2011, while its imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $1.9 billion, down by 11.3 percent year on year.
