Turkey's steel import value down 5.8 percent in 2014

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in the whole year of 2014 the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports decreased by 5.8 percent year on year, totaling $17.61 billion. In the given year, the country's imports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $2.62 billion, down by 5.1 percent year on year. In 2014, iron and steel ranked fourth among the most imported products of the country in terms of value.

Meanwhile, in December last year, the value of Turkey's iron and steel imports totaled $1.45 billion, decreasing 19.4 percent year on year and up by 1.4 percent month on month. In the given month, iron and steel ranked in fifth place among the most imported products of the country in terms of value.

In addition, in December Turkey's imports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked 18th among the products with the highest import value, were down 10.7 percent compared to December 2013 and decreased by 1.77 percent compared to November last year, amounting to $222 million.
