Turkey’s Kardemir aims to produce 3.5 million mt of steel in 2023

Speaking to Turkish newspaper Sanayi Gazetesi, Necdet Utkanlar, general manager of Turkish long steel producer Kardemir Karabük Demir Çelik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (Kardemir), stated that the company aims to become a global company that is at the forefront among the country’s industrial companies by producing 3.5 million mt of high value-added steel in 2023.

Noting that the company broke the annual production record at its blast furnace No. 5 in 2022 by producing 2.22 million mt of crude steel and 2.14 million mt of finished steel, Mr. Utkanlar said that Kardemir recycled 23.1 million mt of raw material in the given year. Last year, the company introduced eight different steel qualities and 74 new products to offer to high value-added sectors such as automotive, railway, defense and machinery manufacturing.

In addition, saying that the first and second stage of the company’s environmental investments completed between 2006 and 2019 had reached $150 million, Utkanlar stated that the third stage of its environmental investments, planned to be completed in 2024, will cost $50 million.
